The Things You Read at Cracker Barrel

My husband and I went to Cracker Barrel today for dinner. I decided to "read" some of those "old" posters and pictures on the wall. There was a advertisement for "match safes." A match safe cost ten cents. Today you cannot even buy a match for ten cents. What happened? I asked my husband he said inflation and the cost of labor. I thought to myself, it is not easier to make things now with machines and cheaper because things do not have to be handmade. I am not a economic expert by any means but something seems amiss here. I am not going dive into political discussion. I was curious and maybe a little taken aback at the enormous gap in cost. I hope to figure this out one day but it seemed to be too much to ponder while eating my chicken fried chicken.
